Overview of The ECPs Training in India
Gurvinder S. Kalra
La Trobe Regional Hospital Mental Health Services (LRH-MHS), Australia, India
Background/Objective: In the recent years there has been much discussion about Early Career
Psychiatrists in different countries. Although the focus has largely been on their training and
challenges it is equally important that we pay attention to how ECPs survive after training. The way
ECPs have been trained may determine how they transition from training to practice. Indian
psychiatry has come a long way from the ancient times to the present but there has been little attempt
to standardize training across the country giving rise to differences in training practices. This talk
will take an overview of psychiatric training practices in India focusing on lacunae and ways to deal
with the same.
