The Self-Addicted Brain
Roy A. Wise
McGill University, USA
Background/Objective: A primary goal of addiction research is to determine the differences
between the addicted and the non-addicted brain. In recent years, much has been learned about
neuroadaptations that result from passive drug exposure. A few recent studies have shown
additional differences between the brains of animals that receive the drugs passively and animals that
take the drugs themselves. These studies suggest a new perspective on compulsive drug-seeking.
