Two Cases of Murder-Suicide on the Campus

Background/Objective: The combination of murder and suicide is an act in which an individual
kills one or more other persons before, or at the same time as, killing oneself. It is rare on the campus
in Taiwan. We presented two cases of murder-suicide on the campus in Taiwan.
Method: Cases reports.
Result: The murderer in the first case is an overseas Chinese medical student. He did not have good
academic performance and hard to establish a close relationship with other classmates. He intended
to kill an unacquainted hospital staff, and at the same time killed himself by jumping from university
hospital high floors. He left a video message to accuse of whole society not fair to him. The second
case involved a fail in love. The murderer, also a overseas Chinese medical student, killed love rival
classmate and committed suicide two days later. He expressed to his life was to the end after the
incident. Guilt led him to kill himself. I will also share the campus reaction and describe how the
university managed the aftermath of these two murder-suicide cases.
Conclusion: These two unexpected murder-suicide events brought a great impact to the campus and
raised the importance of mental health issue on campus.
