Emergency in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

Content: As more and more children and adolescents present to emergency departments for care, it
is important for psychiatry residents and psychiatrists to better understand the basics of managing
psychiatric emergencies for these groups of patients. This presentation will review some of the basic
principles of emergency psychiatry involving a child and adolescent; aspects of the initial assessment;
common presentations including laboratory studies; and elements of the suicide assessment.
