Katsunaka Mikami

Tokai University School of Medicine, Japan

Background/Objective: Poststroke depression (PSD) has a negative impact on outcome in patients
with stroke. In addition, patients who have both major depressive disorder and general anxiety
disorder (GAD) had impaired activity of daily living and social functioning. Furthermor

Method: A randomised control trial.

Result: Our data following subjects of the previous prevention study suggested that nondepressed
patients with stroke, who discontinued an antidepressant after 12 months, were more likely to
develop major depression and increased Hamilton Depression Rating Scale

Conclusion: Antidepressant treatment may be effective in selected patients with stroke.
